Egremont Russet is one of the best dessert apples in the UK, best in the period from September to December. It is much loved for its flavour, nutty and rich, and its fairly crisp and juicy flesh. The tree is easy to grow, and it is suitable for the north. It was introduced in 1880, possibly by the Earl of Egremont at Petworth in Sussex.
