We can help you shape your fruit tree. Join the club with a small yearly fee

Wood is a wonderful material for furniture, easy to shape and recyclable. Now this is the point: wood is either alive or dead. When it is dead, you can shape it and do what you like with it. When it is living, you can still shape it. You can prune it with secateurs. However the effect is short-lived. The tree is alive and will continue to reshape itself every six months of the year, from April to the end of September. The good news is that the tree will follow your lead, provided that you take its natural physiology into account as the basis for modelling your tree.

After a lifetime of experience with trees, I have got to know the characteristics of fruit trees, with their natural shapes. Using this knowledge it is possible to shape or reshape a fruit tree, at the same time putting it into the correct conditions to produce regular crops of quality fruits.

Help in shaping fruit trees

I would be delighted to help you growing your tree. All you have to do is to become a member of the Espalier Fan Club. In return for a small annual membership fee – £25 – we will provide email answers to your tree shaping requirements. The mission of the club is to enable anyone to be successful with growing fruit trees in the desired shape, whether free-standing, fan, espalier, cordon or stepover, or reshaping existing trees. Members are also entitled to receive general advice, for example on problems encountered in growing fruit trees, pests and diseases and so forth.

In the Espalier Fan Club membership form below, we request your full name (which will become your member name), and your address. The latter information is important for us because fruit trees are very site-sensitive. Once you have become a member of the Espalier Fan Club, you can use the second form – Tree Shaping Request Form – to ask for advice on your tree shaping requirements, or general requests on garden fruit tree growing as required. In accordance with your request, we can formulate the actions necessary to enable the tree to crop satisfactorily, in a shape suited to your garden.
