Scotch Dumpling is a large green cooking apple with red blushing. It originated from Clydesdale, date unknown but probably in the mid-19th century. It is suitable for the North. The tree has beautiful blossom, and it needs a pollinator. It ripens early, about mid-August. When cooked, it makes a light and flavoursome purée, and so it is great for apple sauce. Perhaps its name is a reference to a traditional dessert recipe, apple dumplings.
